Late last year, global publisher Phaidon introduced its new book Made in North Korea: Graphics From Everyday Life in the DPRK by Nicholas Bonner. The landscape architect turned filmmaker is a self-proclaimed graphic hoarder who moved to Asia in 1993.

For years, Bonner collected graphic designs born within the Hermit Kingdom that range from packaging designs to signage.

During It’s Nice That’s February 2018 run of its ‘Nicer Tuesdays’ series, Bonner shared more about his collection, touching on various traits about North Korea’s graphic design including its use of vibrant colors.

As his friend Paul French put it, “Nobody has ever turned the accumulated rubbish under their bed into a better book.”
